It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Christine Coman, passed away August 14, 2022 in Carlsbad, after a decline in health and memory which started several years ago, she is now at peace.
Chris and Jim were founding members of the SCVC joining in 1979. Chris’s dedication and involvement with our Club was monumental. She was President, Treasurer, Hunt Test Secretary, Fun Day Chair, Awards Banquet Chair and Membership Chairman. These are a few of her key roles, some positions like Treasurer she held for over 20 years.
Chris and Jim also joined the VCA in 1979. For the next 30 years they attended nearly all the National events. A highlight of Chris and Jim’s involvement with the VCA was at the 1992 “Great Western” Nationals held in Porterville/Lindsey, CA. Jim was Chairman and Chris became known as “Mrs. Chairman” serving as the Chairman of Finance, Publicity and Advertising. In 2005, Chris served as Vendor Chair at the
Bakersfield Nationals.
Additionally in 1998 and 1999, Jim and Chris were involved in organizing two successful All-Vizsla Walking Field Trials at Tejon Ranch which were sponsored by the VCA.
Although Jim sadly passed away in 2012, Chris remained an active participant in all things Vizsla. Chris owned Cree, who won Best of Breed at our 2013 Indio Specialty Show from the Veterans Class at the age of 10 years. Some of her previous vizslas were Josh, Peepers, Mindy, Maddie,
Sophie and Carmen.
There is no one in our Club who at some time or another has not been heartened by Chris Coman’s support and coaching. Vizslas and the South Coast Vizsla Club was her life's passion. Thank you Chris for your club dedication and generous spirit. You will be truly missed.
